After 1800 years of pilfering of building materials from Ephesus, there's still plenty there. This city was vast in its hey day, and there's still a lot left to see. It will take centuries to excavate this place; there are arches showing above ground that were probably 40 feet up at one time. That's 40 feet of careful digging by the archeologists to reach the Roman street level, and the pre-Roman artifacts are still deeper.
